A given culture cannot be understood simply in terms of content or parts. One has to know how the whole system is put together, how they are interrelated. This brings us to a remarkable position; namely, that it is not possible to adequately describe a culture solely from the inside or from the outside without reference to the other. Bicultural people and culture-contact situations enhance the opportunity for comparison.
